Researcher Spotlight: Rand Ibrahim

Rand Ibrahim
Post-Doctoral Fellow – Cardiology

What is your professional background?
After graduating from medical school in Lebanon, I moved to Atlanta to join Emory as a postdoc research fellow. Here, I have had the chance to hone my research skills and help answer many relevant clinical questions. I am very excited to be staying at Emory as an incoming internal medicine intern!

Which division do you work in? Who is your mentor?
I am working in the division of Cardiology – Electrophysiology to be specific. I am extremely lucky to have Dr. Faisal Merchant and Dr. Mikhael El Chami as my mentors, in addition to many, many great examples throughout Emory!

Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
Our research aims to improve the electrophysiology patient’s experience, as well as help guide clinicians where evidence is otherwise lacking. Our topics span a wide range of interests including antiarrhythmics, procedures, devices, and the utility of commercial portable devices. We try to link our findings to our patients and their specific characteristics to help achieve patient-centered care.

What do you like most about Emory?
I find Emory special because of its people. I have been met with the utmost support and enthusiasm, allowing for many rewarding experiences and rich collaborations.

What is your favorite movie or TV show?
I must admit, I’m a huge Gilmore Girls fan!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
If I am lost, you can bet I am off on a run, a bike ride, or being covered in flour-baking indulgent sweets.

What is a fun fact about you?
I have discovered numerous meanings to my name, some of which include: an ever-green flower, the South African currency, a strand of beach in Estonian, and edge – not edgy – in German.
