2019-2020 Chief Resident Spotlight: Danica Rockney

How did Emory’s residency program prepare you for your future career?
Emory provides not only excellent clinical training, but also immense research possibilities and mentorship that has helped me recognize my passions and goals for my future career. I am forever indebted to all at Emory who have supported me and allowed me opportunities to ensure future success.

What’s the biggest takeaway from your year as a chief resident?
I just feel so incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to serve as chief resident at Emory. It has been an incredibly humbling year full on unexpected events and changes, and more than anything, watching the residents handle this with grace and humility has been incredibly inspiring.

What is one piece of advice you would like to give to incoming Emory residents?
Enjoy the ride! You will have great days and bad days, but everyone here at Emory is here to support you both professionally and personally. You’ve got this!

What will you miss the most about Emory’s residency program?
The people! From the residents, attendings, and leadership, the people of this program are really what make it so incredibly special.

What do you enjoy most about living in Atlanta?
There are so many great things about Atlanta! You get the perks of a big city, but the many different neighborhoods make it feel much smaller and makes it easier to live in. Also, it is so green! Atlanta is called the “City in the Forest” for a reason.

What are your career plans for after residency?
I will be going to Johns Hopkins to start a fellowship in infectious disease.
