Researcher Spotlight: Zanthia Wiley

What is your professional background?
I am an infectious diseases physician and specialize in antimicrobial stewardship. Prior to infectious diseases, I was a hospitalist at Emory Midtown for 10 years.

Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
My research has focused on optimizing inpatient antibiotic prescribing. Most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted significant healthcare disparities and much of my focus has shifted towards addressing these disparities. I am honored to work with colleagues (too many to list) from Emory Healthcare, Grady, Kaiser, the VA, and the community to address these disparities head-on. We are particularly focused on community outreach, renal outcomes, hospitalization rates, and readmissions.

What do you like most about Emory?
The people. I have developed lifelong friendships, many of whom are like family at this point.

What is your favorite movie or TV show?
‘The View.’ There is nothing better than watching four smart women share their opinions on politics, life, fashion, and entertainment.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
What spare time?! COVID-19 has taken it hostage.

What is a fun fact about you?
If I had to stop practicing medicine tomorrow, I would sign up for interior design school in a heartbeat.
