2020 Southeastern FMD and SCAD Symposium has record number of attendees

The Department of Medicine recently hosted the 2020 Southeastern FMD and SCAD Symposium at Emory University Hospital Midtown. The program, led by Bryan Wells, MD, associate professor in the Division of Cardiology, featured experts in cardiology, vascular medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and more from all over the southeast, and provided an overview of fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) and spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD).

More than 130 patients, family members, and providers attended the event – a new record! The symposium covered more than fifteen different SCAD- and FMD-related topics. Presentations were aimed both towards patients and their families and friends, while also informing other healthcare providers about FMD and SCAD.

In addition to discussing technical information regarding the diagnosis, intervention, and treatment of these conditions, topics relating to the typical daily life of a patient were presented. This included helpful information on diet and exercise, pregnancy, symptoms, mental health, and much more. Lastly, opportunities to get involved in the research registries to help discover more information regarding FMD and SCAD were presented by the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America and SCAD Alliance.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this event so enjoyable and informative. The event team looks forward to seeing even more people next year!
