UK Health and Care Professions Council visits Emory PA Program

Visiting the Simulation Lab: Marc Seale (Chief Executive and Registrar, HCPC, UK); Grady Barnhill (NCCPA); Sheila Mauldin (NCCPA); Stephen Wordsworth (HCPC); Michael Guthrie (HCPC); Jake Almond (PA student); Jodie Guest (Associate Program Director, Emory PA Program); Mary Katherine Carter (PA student); and Maha Lund (Director, Emory PA Program)

On June 2, 2017, Dr. Maha Lund, director of the Emory Physician Assistant (PA) Program, and Dr. Jodie Guest, associate program director, hosted visitors from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). The HCPC group has been charged with developing regulations for the PA profession in the United Kingdom, where the PA profession is still in its infancy. They came to Emory to learn more about the PA training as well as the integration of PAs into the clinical setting. The academic portion of the visit included a tour to the Simulation Lab, Anatomy Lab and the OSCE suites. The team also toured Emory University Hospital with Emory PA alumni, Veketa Smith, PA-C and Gabriel Najarro, PA-C, and spoke with advance practice providers in the critical care units as well as the hematology/oncology, and heart failure services.
