Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
I am a California native. I grew up in the Bay Area and moved to Georgia in 1999 with my family. I completed my last year of high school in Georgia and have been here ever since. I think one can say, I am here to stay!

What is your professional background?
As a child, I was passionate about caring for others, and I knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field. I started college as a nursing major. As I navigated working full-time and being a full-time student, I discovered that I actually had two passions, caring for others and business operations. That’s when I changed my focus to the business side of healthcare. My desire throughout my career has been to be a vital resource in providing valuable quality care to patients through healthcare system and organization operations.

While in school, I was a volunteer at Emory Budd Terrace and Emory Wesly Woods. A few years later I was hired for my first healthcare job in the Anesthesia Administrative office at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. In this role, I interacted with patients and learned the business operations of a hospital-based medical practice. I also interned in the Medical Records department where I learned how to create policies and procedures for ICD-10 coding guidelines, rules, and regulations for medical records. Within two years, I transitioned to the Patient Financial Services department, working with the Revenue Cycle team. This role expanded my knowledge in claims management, billing, and reimbursement. I completed my B.S. in Health Information Administration while in this role.

I went on to serve eight years in the Patient Access Operations Department with the Capacity Management team. In this role, I collaborated with stakeholders from our 32 divisions advising on access operation strategies to increase access and decrease barriers to patient care, while accomplishing metric targets. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I led my team through mission-critical operations: transitioning in-person clinic appointments to virtual visits, managing access to testing, and implementing vaccine protocols. As the organization implemented EPIC, I led my team through translating over 5,000 physician schedules from our legacy system, earned two Epic Certifications, and completed my M.S. in Healthcare Management. My last project in this role was leading my team through the Emory Now initiative, building same-day and self-scheduling access for our patients.

After 10 years of service with Emory Healthcare, I transitioned to the School of Medicine, Department of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Here I am able to apply my industry knowledge, career experiences, and contribute to the strategic and operational goals and objectives of the department. I am grateful for everyone that has participated in my healthcare career and supported me over the years.

What is your role at Emory?
I am the Senior Clinical Business Manager in the School of Medicine, Department of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. I support clinical and academic business, administrative, and operational activities.

How long have you worked in the Department of Medicine?
I have been with the Department of Medicine for 10 months. I am blessed to be working with a great team of administrative and physician leaders. I am thoroughly enjoying my role.

What are you currently working on? Any upcoming projects?
Currently, we are in budget season and I am assisting the leadership team with the budgeting process. Also, I am working with our physician leaders on a Comprehensive Lung Center to expand our program and expose our pulmonary sub-specialty diseases locally and nationally.

What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
For fun outside of work, I enjoy spending time doing outdoor activities with my family, exploring different restaurants, attending festivals, and serving at church. I also enjoy decorating my home—I love a good DIY project.
