Congratulations to the graduating J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program chiefs and residents!

As the year comes to an end for our residents, two significant events celebrated our chiefs and residents and their accomplishments during their Emory residency program.

Annual Chief’s Roast

A few weeks ago, the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency hosted the Annual Chief’s Roast to celebrate the 2022-2023 Chief Residents, Shub Agrawal, Alex Galloway, John Huang, Sindhu Prabakaran, Kevin Shah, and Joey Sharp. This year, they celebrated the commitment of our residents as they progressed in their training and education in challenging times. Reena Hemrajani, MD, program director of the internal medicine residency program, provided opening remarks to express thanks to this group of chief medical residents for their incredible impact on the residency program this year. Faculty and fellows were recognized and appreciated as integral in residents’ education and career development. The evening concluded with the traditional ‘roast and toast’ of our chief medical residents, followed by closing remarks.

Senior Banquet

Last week, the residency program hosted its Senior Banquet to honor the Residency Class of 2023. This year’s celebration was a particularly meaningful one; residents in this class completed medical school in 2020 and did not have a match day, medical school graduation, or a full in-person intern orientation as they started residency. They embarked on their journey as resident physicians in the early, uncertain days of the pandemic. This class has demonstrated incredible resilience, and this evening provided the opportunity to commemorate and celebrate so many accomplishments and the exciting next steps ahead for each of these individuals. On reflecting on the last few years, one of the most consistent sentiments expressed by residents was gratitude for the unparalleled sense of community of residents and faculty in the Department of Medicine. The evening ended with reminders that whether they are staying at Emory or traveling across the country for their next steps, this class will always remain connected to each other and the Emory community.

Join us in congratulating this talented group of physicians as they complete their residencies and please help us wish them well as they move on to their exciting future endeavors.
