2016 Emory Holiday Toy Drive: Volunteers and donations needed

The Division of Cardiology is raising money for Emory’s annual holiday toy drive. Last year, we were able to support 89 children with $9,000+ in generous donations from the Emory community. This year, we have pledged to raise $10,000 (via PayPal donations) to support at least 100 local children in need. We will team up with the Department of Medicine’s Project M-PACT team, the Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC) administrative team, and the Emory Clinics.

Every day—through no fault of their own—children in Atlanta are thrust into the child welfare system. Many are victims of physical and emotional abuse, while others are neglected, abandoned, or removed from their homes by the courts. Often, these children become the victims of an overburdened system with a complex network of lawyers, social workers, and judges who are frequently too overworked to give thorough, detailed attention to each child.

We will collect holiday wish-lists from 100 children (ages 1-17), and we are requesting monetary donations and volunteers to help us fulfill them. Please keep in mind that these may be the only gifts these children receive this year. Typically, their lists are very modest and include clothing and one or two personal items, such as toys or sporting goods.

If you would like to contribute to this great cause, you can make a credit or debit card donation via PayPal by Wednesday, November 23. Please join us in helping children in need and making this another wonderful toy drive.
