DOM Staff Spotlight: Todd Prusin

Our next DOM Staff Spotlight is Todd Prusin, Manager, Program & Research for the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology. Learn more about our colleague below!

Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
Apart from college and a few bits here and there, I’ve lived in Atlanta since I was 10. I would move to another city, but all the record store and music store guys here know who I am, and I’d hate to live in a city where they don’t!

What is your professional background?
I have been a medical librarian since 1999. I worked at the CDC library, was an Assistant Professor at Georgia State University, and the Library Director at Northside Hospital.

What is your role at Emory?
I am Dr. Madeleine Hackney’s Lab Manager. I try to do everything and avoid doing the things that others can do better than I can. I run the lab, help recruit and schedule our participants, schedule our interventions, recruit our students, and schedule their participation. I help schedule Ubers and actually sprint down the parking lots when the Ubers can’t find us to deliver our participants. I edit, submit, and revise our peer-reviewed papers and help our visiting scholars present to our group and join our lab.

How long have you worked in the Department of Medicine?
I started in July of 2021.

What are you currently working on? Any upcoming projects?
We are always disseminating our research via scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals. Here is a recent citation: Ramos ME, Pothineni S, Ni L, Bay AA, Prusin T, Hackney ME. Qualitative Analysis of Attitudes, Knowledge, and Interest in Research of People with Parkinson’s Disease and Their Care Partners Receiving Accessible Research Education. Parkinsons Dis. 2023 Sep 11;2023:

Dr. Hackney is also sponsoring the 14th Annual Bettye Rose Connell Memorial Lecture Series taking place on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
I am a music junkie and musician. I am constantly reading music bios and texts (many acquired via Emory Library Inter-Library Loan!) and music magazines. I have been on CNN twice as a Beatles Scholar and have been a music journalist for over 30 years. I am also in two bands, one of which is playing on July 20 (reach out for details). I consider myself a James Bond scholar if there can be such a thing! Oh yeah, most importantly, I am a father to a 16-year-old daughter whose middle name is a Chuck Berry song.
