The 15th Annual DOM Research Day celebrates another year of research efforts across the department!

That’s a wrap! Our 2022 Department of Medicine Research Day was held at the Emory Student Center on Thursday, October 27. For the first time since 2019, the event was held in person, with more than 300 faculty, staff, and trainees in attendance.

Presenters from across the department’s ten divisions shared the exciting basic, translational, and clinical research currently being conducted. The event included Featured Research talks, oral presentations, poster presentations, a keynote, and a presentation of awards.

This event’s keynote presentation, “Novel mitochondrial mechanisms for cardiometabolic disease” was delivered by E. Dale Abel, MD, PhD, Chair and Executive Medical Director, Department of Medicine, UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from the following DOM researchers, who were Featured Researchers throughout the day.

  • “Bearing the burden of non-AIDS comorbidities: How HIV and sex interact to impact and inform strategies for healthy aging” – Lauren Collins, MD, Assistant Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases, 2021 DOM Clinical Citation Award (Junior faculty)
  • “American-style football athletes: A robust model of early cardiovascular risk” Jonathan Kim, MD, Associate Professor, Division of Cardiology
