Rebecca Levit, MD, PhD, named director for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program’s ABIM Research Track

We are pleased to announce that Rebecca Levit, MD, PhD has been named program director for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program’s ABIM Research Track. Levit will be taking over the position from Neal W. Dickert, MD, PhD who has held the program director role since 2019.

Dr. Rebecca Levit is an Assistant Professor of Cardiology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She completed her undergraduate training at Dickinson College and medical school at The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, she was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study animal physiology at the University of Wollongong in Australia. After medical school, Dr. Levit completed residency, fellowship, and post-doctoral research training in the ABIM Research Track at Emory University in the lab of Dr. W. Robert Taylor.

Dr. Levit has active NIH funding evaluating the innate immune system’s role in cardiovascular disease and novel therapeutics targeting neutrophils. In addition, she maintains a clinical practice in cardiology at Emory’s Clifton Road Campus. She also served as associate program director in the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship overseeing training of basic science research fellowships from 2017 – 2022.

As the program director, Levit will lead recruitment and oversight of the ABIM research track. Research track housestaff complete a two-year residency and an extended subspecialty fellowship with dedicated research time. The program prepares participants for careers as physician-scientists.
