Please join us in congratulating the nominees for our faculty and staff awards! These individuals have made significant contributions to their divisions, the department, the School of Medicine, and/or Emory University. This year, we received 108 nominations! The award winners will be announced on August 30th at the Celebration of Honors and Awards.

DOM Faculty Awards:

• AME “TEACH 12” AWARD: the Academy of Medical Educators (AME) was created to identify, recognize, and honor master teachers. AME’s goal is to develop and implement innovative education tools and programs, as well as mentor and train aspiring educators who will act as role models for other faculty.
• The Diversity and Inclusion Award: recognizes Department of Medicine faculty who have made significant contributions to fostering a diverse and inclusive DOM community through their service, teaching, mentoring, and research efforts.
• EDUCATOR IMPACT AWARD: recognizes faculty who have made outstanding contributions as a medical educator as recognized by their peers.
• NANETTE K. WENGER DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD: recognizes faculty who have demonstrated outstanding service and citizenship to the Department of Medicine. One award will be given in each of the three faculty ranks: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.
• OUTSTANDING CLINICIAN AWARD: recognizes faculty who have demonstrated outstanding clinical and collaborative care for patients.
• OUTSTANDING SCIENTIFIC CITATION AWARD: recognizes researchers, producing outstanding basic and clinical/translational (including quality improvement and health services) research publications, at the following faculty ranks: Instructor/Assistant Professor, Associate Professor/Professor.
• R. WAYNE ALEXANDER EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH AWARD: recognizes significant contributions to medical knowledge realized through a body of research over an individual’s career in either basic research or clinical and translational research.
• QUALITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: recognizes faculty who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to clinical quality improvement, or quality improvement within teaching, leadership, or research.
• SHANTHI V. SITARAMAN SILVER PEAR MENTORING AWARD: recognizes Department of Medicine faculty who have demonstrated outstanding mentoring to early career faculty within the Department of Medicine during the past year. One award will be given in each of the two categories: Mentoring of faculty primarily in the clinician educator or service area, Mentoring of faculty primarily in the research area.
• HIDDEN GEM AWARD: honors Department of Medicine faculty who have made quiet but outstanding and impactful contributions (in any of our mission areas) that may escape external recognition.

 

DOM Staff Awards

• EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMIC INNOVATION AWARD: recognizes a staff member or team who have displayed exceptional work and/or produced significant innovations for the Department of Medicine. The innovations will have resulted in meaningful work process improvements and/or work designs.
• LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE AWARD: recognizes a staff member for his/her exemplary leadership accomplishments and contributions to the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, and Emory University. These nominees have led, served, inspired, and collaborated with broad-ranging impact beyond their regular responsibilities.
• OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD: recognizes a staff member who provides consistent and sustained excellence, exceptional performance, and service to the Division, Department of Medicine, and Emory University. These nominees demonstrate integrity, teamwork, productivity, and customer service.
• UNSUNG HERO AWARD: recognizes a staff member who goes above and beyond the routine call of duty. Successful nominees exhibit a high level of commitment, initiative, cooperation, and dedication in their job responsibilities. These nominees are dependable and trustworthy, instill in their coworkers a sense of responsibility and dedication to the university, and exemplify excellence and integrity in workplace relationships, interactions, and decisions.
