Department of Medicine honored at PRSA Awards Celebration

The Department of Medicine was recently honored by the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for its exceptional communications and event planning work during the organization’s annual Awards Celebration. The DOM took home two Phoenix Awards and an Award of Excellence for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council’s inaugural Health Equity Day, which was held virtually May 11, 2021.

Health Equity Day aimed to raise awareness and encourage action around the systemic health disparities that exist across racial, ethnic, cultural, and social groups. The event also recognized interventions and research across the department centered on health equity. The conference included poster presentations, a case competition, a keynote address, and a narrative pre-event. More than 270 members of the DOM and Emory community attended to share compelling new findings, facilitate scientific exchange, and identify opportunities for collaboration.

The PRSA Georgia Awards Celebration recognizes projects and programs that demonstrate excellence in the state’s public relations profession. With nearly 850 members, PRSA Georgia is the national organization’s second largest chapter.

The DOM won awards in three categories including Most Effective Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Campaign for Internal Audiences; Most Effective Campaign on a Shoe String Budget ($5,000 or Less); and Events or Observances — Seven or Fewer Days — Associations/Government/Nonprofit Organizations.

In addition, Emory School of Medicine received Phoenix Awards in the Best Use of Social Stories and Events or Observances — Seven or Fewer Days — Associations/Government/Nonprofit Organizations categories for Virtual White Coat Ceremony 2020.
