Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m from the island of Puerto Rico, from the town of Bayamon, where it rains every day. I completed my Bachelor of Science at the University of Puerto Rico and attended UNIBE School of Medicine in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. After finishing medical school, I completed my training of internal medicine at Damas Hospital in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Why did you choose to complete your nephrology fellowship at Emory?
Emory was my first choice because the quality of medicine here functions as an example to the rest of the world. The nephrology fellowship curriculum is rich and diverse with abundant learning opportunities.

What is your favorite thing about living in Atlanta?
Atlanta is the “city in the forest.” The temperature here is perfect and you get all the seasons. I enjoy being around nature when not in the hospital.

What has your fellowship experience been like?
I have enjoyed my time as a fellow at Emory, the challenges of the diverse population, and I feel very proud to be a part of this medical community.

What advice do you have for future nephrology fellows?
Enjoy your time as a fellow and don’t worry if acidosis or hyponatremia is confusing at first. You will get it sooner or later.

What are your career plans post fellowship?
I would like to open my own private practice and dialysis unit.
