Emory Family Medicine at Dunwoody Hosts International Healthcare Leaders

Recently, McKinsey and Company, a global management consulting firm, brought an elite group of 10 health care leaders from Europe and Latin America to visit Emory Family Medicine at Dunwoody. The goal of the visit was for Emory Family Medicine at Dunwoody to serve as a fully-functioning clinical model of a patient-centered medical home (PCMH). Emory Family Medicine at Dunwoody has been a level-three PCMH since 2013 and was recently recertified.

During the visit, the health care leaders received an overview of the medical home and description of the local implementation journey. They also learned about Emory Family Medicine at Dunwoody’s emphasis on team based care, population management, and quality improvement and measurement. Emory’s host team concluded its presentation with stories about the impact that PCMH has had on the organization’s patients and team. Following the formal presentation, the visitors received a tour of the facility and participated in a panel discussion with faculty, staff, and residents.

“It was incredibly powerful to see how continuous quality improvement and a greater focus on populations, not just individuals, has been implemented in a primary care setting,” said one of the visitors. “This is exactly what we need to do in our system, and I learned so much being able to see what had been done and how it had been approached at Emory.”

Emory’s host team included:

Cathi Durham, Practice Transformation Coach
Susan Alfonso, Director, Academic and Medical Integration, Emory Family Medicine
Belinda Stewart, Senior Manager, Clinical Services and Operations
Oluyinka Ajirotutu, Administrator, Clinical Operations, Family Medicine
