What is your professional background?
I graduated from medical school in Quito, Ecuador. I completed my Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship at Emory University.
In what division do you work, and who is your mentor?
I work at the Division of Infectious Diseases, and my mentors are Andres Camacho-Gonzalez and Carlos del Rio.
Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
My research focuses on HIV prevention in Latinx youth living in the southern US. Identifying the behavioral, social, and structural barriers to HIV prevention and care in ethnic minorities in new host destinations for immigrants, such as Atlanta, is a fundamental step in addressing the HIV epidemic in the area.
What do you like most about Emory?
I really enjoy Emory’s collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment and the active participation of students in all aspects of academic life.
What is your favorite movie or TV show?
My favorite TV show is Stranger Things.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I spend my spare time with my husband and my two kids. We love to walk to the park in our neighborhood and then head to brunch on Saturdays.
