Raymond Kim, MD, has been named the Clinical Director at Emory University School of Medicine’s nationally accredited Division of Digestive Diseases. He will officially start with the Department of Medicine this August. Dr. Kim is a board-certified gastroenterologist and accomplished endoscopist, widely recognized for his expertise in complex therapeutic procedures and his commitment to clinical innovation.
Dr. Kim completed his medical education at Ajou University in South Korea, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He then pursued a gastroenterology fellowship at George Washington University and further specialized in Advanced Endoscopy at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Before joining Emory, Dr. Kim served as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and as Head of the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at the University of Maryland Midtown Campus. He initiated endoscopic surgery procedures at the University of Maryland and developed the program into a regionally recognized center for advanced endoscopic care, expanding its referral network across Maryland, Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, West Virginia, and Delaware.
Dr. Kim has performed hundreds of Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) procedures—among the highest volumes in the mid-Atlantic region. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, delivered numerous invited lectures, and presented his research at national and international conferences. His academic interests focus on advanced endoscopic techniques, quality improvement, and optimizing health systems.
Dr. Kim is also a dedicated educator, having received multiple “Faculty Teacher of the Year” awards for his outstanding mentorship of fellows and residents. At the national level, he advises the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) through his involvement with both the CPT Editorial Panel and the RUC meetings, advocating for accurate coding and reimbursement structures in gastroenterology and hepatology.
Dr. Kim is relocating to Atlanta with his wife and their three children—Allison, Eric, and Asher. He runs two book clubs for his kids and enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and traveling.
