The Emory University Department of Medicine is nationally known for its exceptional residency and fellowship programs in Internal Medicine and the Medicine sub-specialty areas.
Emory University’s J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program is both rigorous and competitive. Each year, the Department of Medicine receives more than 4,000 applications and interviews approximately 10 percent of candidates who apply.
Department Chair David S. Stephens, MD; Vice Chair for Education Wendy Armstrong, MD; the residency program director; associate program directors; medical student education leaders; and staff across the school collaborate to ensure the department’s educational programs continue to meet the highest standards of quality and innovation.
Emory’s access to a large and varied patient population provides residents and fellows with intriguing and often unique training opportunities. Our goal is to cultivate a program dedicated to excellent teaching in the context of superb clinical care. Emory Department of Medicine residents routinely receive a 100-percent pass rate on the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) exam, a reflection of our commitment to excellence. Our faculty, fellows, and residents also conduct a significant portion of clinical teaching at the Emory University School of Medicine.
