I split my time doing clinical duties as Hospitalist and administrative duties as the Medical Director of Unit 6E at ESJH. I have an MPH from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and completed Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Illinois, Chicago/Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
In what division do you work, and who is your mentor?
I work in the Division of Hospital Medicine at ESJH. I am fortunate to have several mentors. Dhaval Desai, Reena Hemrajani, and Michael Balk, to name a few.
Tell us about your FAME grant project, why it is important, and what it means to you to receive funding?
I am extremely excited and honored to be awarded the FAME grant for “Conserving Laboratory Resources and Reducing Inappropriate Testing in a Time of Scarcity: A Quality Improvement Initiative to Guide Hospitalists’ Use of Routine Blood Draws”. This project focuses on reducing unnecessary routine blood draws in inpatients through educational interventions and individualized provider feedback. It also positively impacts several key metrics such as inpatient length of stay and patient satisfaction. My long-term goal is to further a career in quality. I recently completed the Emory Quality Academy course and CPHQ certification. The FAME grant gives me protected time to singularly focus on this project, deliver the outcomes that benefit Emory and help me realize my professional goals.
What do you like most about Emory?
I came to Emory in 2015 from a much smaller system and from day one I was blessed with opportunities to network, learn and seek help. Emory offers a very collegial and cross-collaborative environment to thrive.
What is your favorite movie or TV show?
I am a little kid at heart and really enjoy animation movies. I have lost count of the number of times I watched Klaus and the Ice-Age sequels with my kids!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to go on hikes with my husband and three kids whenever we get a chance. I recently discovered my passion for gardening and spend a lot of my free time in our yard with my family.
What is a fun fact about you?
We drove from Yosemite to Zion National Park in one go, starting at 4 AM with my three kids – aged 1, 3, and 5 at the time. Still wonder how we escaped getting a blood clot!
