Associate Program Director for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program
First, DOM Education is soliciting applications to fill the role of associate program director for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program. The associate program director position provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual with an interest in leadership in graduate medical education.
The associate program director will join a leadership team along with six other associate program directors under the direction of residency program director Dr. Reena Hemrajani. Together, the residency leadership team helps guide the administrative, clinical, and educational oversight of the residency program. In addition to administrative and organizational assistance, 0.35 full-time equivalency (FTE) of salary support will be provided to the associate program director.
Specific responsibilities of the associate program director include:
- Assisting the program director in program administration, curricular planning, and program evaluation
- Planning and participating in residency events, including recruitment, orientation, didactic events, social events, and graduation
- Leadership and oversight of resident educational experiences at Grady Memorial Hospital
- Chief medical resident and individual resident mentorship
- Participation in scholarship in graduate medical education and academic societies designed to further develop educational, administrative, and leadership skills and promote the Department’s reputation for excellence in medical education

IM Residency Distinction Director – Medical Education; Core faculty for the Department of Medicine
The DOM Office of Education is also soliciting applications to fill the role of Distinction Director for the Distinction in Medical Education. First established in 2007, the Distinction Programs are educational opportunities that enable residents to pursue additional curricula in specific areas of interest. The Director for the Distinction in Medical Education is entrusted with oversight of a focused, longitudinal pathway for residents to develop expertise in this area. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual with formal teaching experience seeking augmented roles in resident mentorship, medical education, and educational scholarship. Distinction Directors also serve as core faculty in the Department of Medicine and thus serve as the foundation for the Department of Medicine Education Community.
The director will join the Distinction Program leadership team under the direction of Residency Program Director Reena Hemrajani, MD. Alongside the residency leadership team and core faculty, these groups guide the administrative, educational, and scholarship oversight for these specialized educational programs. In addition to administrative and organizational assistance, 0.10 full-time equivalency (FTE) of salary support will be provided for this position.
Specific responsibilities as a Distinction Director include:
- Oversight of a focused, longitudinal curriculum in medical education to include experiential and interactive learning experiences
- Resident mentorship in medical education scholarship
- Curriculum planning, implementation, administration, and evaluation of the program, including group and individual curricula and engagement and scholarship
- Individual resident oversight and mentorship
- Engagement with key educational initiatives alongside the DOM core faculty
