Aneesh Mehta named Chief of Infectious Diseases at EUH and Emory University Orthopedics and Spine Hospital

We are pleased to announce that Aneesh K. Mehta, MD, FIDSA, FAST was named Chief of Infectious Diseases (ID) Services at Emory University Hospital (EUH) and Emory University Orthopedics and Spine Hospital (EUOSH) on January 1, 2020. Dr. Mehta served as the Associate Chief of ID Services at EUH/EUOSH since 2013. He is taking over for Carlos del Rio, MD, who was Chief at EUH for seven years. Dr. del Rio has been named Executive Associate Dean for Emory at Grady and Chairman of the Emory Medical Care Foundation Board.  Dr. Mehta is a Distinguished Physician in the Emory University School of Medicine where his primary academic appointment is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases with a secondary appointment as Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Transplant Surgery.  He received his BS in Biology from Emory University.  After earning his MD from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, Dr. Mehta completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Emory University School of Medicine, where he joined the faculty in 2009.  Dr. Mehta is the Assistant Director of Transplant Infectious Diseases, and the Consultant for Occupational Exposures at the Yerkes National Primate Center. Dr. Mehta is a physician leader in the Emory Serious Communicable Diseases Unit, the National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center (NETEC), and the NETEC Special Pathogens Research Network (SPRN), where he leads the biorepository and clinical trials groups. Dr. Mehta is an ID consultant at EUH and EUOSH, and he maintains a strong presence in clinical research at EUH. The Infectious Diseases services at EUH and EUOSH include four inpatient consulting services (EUH General ID, Transplant ID, ID3, and EUOSH ID), as well as the Serious Communicable Diseases Unit. In addition, there is an active outpatient Transplant ID clinic embedded in the Emory Transplant Center, and an ID-Orthopedics clinic is under development at the medical office tower at EUOSH. The EUH ID section includes 26 attending physicians and two Physician Assistants. This strong team collaborates to provide the highest level of care to patients with infections, helping EUH become recognized as one of the top 5 hospitals in the country for Infectious Diseases. Under Dr. Mehta’s leadership, we expect to continue providing the highest level of clinical care and service and expand access to cutting edge clinical research.
