Highlighted Researcher: Antoine Trammell

What is your professional background?
I am from Nashville, Tennessee, and I attended medical school at Meharry Medical College. I relocated to Georgia for post-graduate training at Mercer University in Macon. After training, I completed a research fellowship evaluating cardiac arrest outcomes in the Division of Cardiology at Mercer. I decided to move to Atlanta due to accepting an offer for a faculty position in the School of Medicine at the Grady campus. A year after joining the faculty, I began and completed the Executive MPH program in the School of Public Health.

In what division do you work, and who is your mentor?
I work in the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics. I have the pleasure of being mentored by two outstanding individuals, Drs. Jada Bussey-Jones and Ihab Hajjar, who have helped me shape my career and research focus.

Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
I am currently investigating the impact of psychosocial stress and cardiovascular risk on the progression of cognitive impairment. The prevalence of cognitive changes associated with aging is increasing in the United States as the population ages.  Moreover, the occurrence and effects of cognitive changes with aging vary across ethnic and socioeconomic strata resulting in disparate health outcomes and a significant financial burden on society from related care costs.

What do you like most about Emory?
The beautiful campus, educational opportunities, and genuine relationships encouraging career and personal growth are the things I enjoy most about Emory.

What is your favorite movie or TV show?
I do not have a favorite movie or TV show as I prefer reading non-fiction works.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy time with my family, reading, and creative exploration through cooking, painting, and playing several musical instruments.
