Joined by faculty, staff and residents, featured speaker Field F. Willingham, MD, MPH kicked off the 2018 IM Resident Research Day by sharing his collaborative research projects with residents from the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program.

“The one important quality that leads to a successful resident research is tenacity,” said Dr. Willingham. Additionally, he urged residents to find something they are truly passionate about when it comes to research.

Following his speech, residents Nithin Gopalsamy, MD, Demetria Smith, MD, and Natalie Giles, MD, presented the top resident-led research projects of the year.

This year, 53 Emory residents presented scholarly work at scientific events, including presentations at three international, 27 national, and 23 regional meetings. Twenty-eight of these projects were case reports and 25 were original research.

A poster session was also hosted in the lobby outside of the Emory University Hospital Auditorium, showcasing resident research while providing an opportunity to form discussions among attendees.
