Highlighted Educator: Zanthia Wiley

Zanthia Wiley, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine

Emory Division of Infectious Diseases

Tell us about yourself
I spent ten years as a hospitalist prior to pursuing a career in infectious diseases and am interested in fostering collaborative relationships between hospital medicine and infectious diseases with a focus on antimicrobial stewardship.

Why did you go into medicine?
I am the first person in my family to pursue a career in medicine and my interest was sparked when I worked as a unit secretary at my local community hospital during a summer job as a teen.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?
I enjoy teaching because collaboration with learners at all levels, from medical students to seasoned attendings, serves as a learning process for everyone involved.  I find that I probably learn as much as I teach when working with medical students and residents.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, international travel, and local theater.
