Goebel named GI Clinical Consultant, VISN Business Office

Stephan Goebel, MD (Emory University Division of Digestive Diseases) has been appointed GI Clinical Consultant for the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) Business Office in Duluth, GA for a period of two years, effective Oct. 2, 2017. “Dr. Goebel is well qualified to assume the duties as the VISN GI Clinical Consultant and brings valuable experience and insight to both the veterans and VA staff,” says Leslie Wiggins, director of the VA Southeast Network. “Each VISN 7 Clinical Consultant/Program Lead will be responsible for providing clinical and administrative expertise, advocacy, and oversight for their discipline. This may include providing on-sight expert review of programs, providing input on the development of VISN-level policies, and disseminating updated information and guidance to peers, etc.”

The Veterans Health Administration is the largest integrated health care system in the United States, providing care at 1,245 health care facilities, including 170 VA Medical Centers and 1,065 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics), serving more than 9 million enrolled Veterans each year. VHA Medical Centers provide a wide range of services including traditional hospital-based services such as surgery, critical care, mental health, orthopedics, pharmacy, radiology and physical therapy.
