SHM Atlanta

Thank you to everyone who joined us for another great SHM Atlanta chapter meeting. Our own Bruce Mitchell gave a riveting talk on the legal risks we face as hospitalists last week at the Fish Market in Buckhead. Emory, as always, had a strong showing with physicians and APPs from each site. As the president for our local Atlanta SHM chapter, I am always looking for interest in presenting lectures and other ideas that could help support our local Atlanta community of hospitalist staff. If you have an idea or would like to be considered for a talk or workshop, please let me know. We also would like to carve out some time for an A.P.P. focused group. Julie Schneider will be helping to lead the charge on this, so please let her know if you have an idea for educational discussion or any topics that could be exchanged with other A.P.Ps in the area.

Our next meeting is June 23 (Thursday) at Davio’s. Along with the networking, wine, and food, we will have a talk by Larry Beer (from EUH) on provider overconfidence and error. This will be a great follow-up to Bruce’s talk on legal foibles that put hospitalists at risk, but this time will focus on errors that lead to poor outcomes that most people don’t realize occur. This is going to be a great session, so don’t miss it.
